I watched the unfolding tragedy at Blacksburg with horror but not shock. It isn't that the massacre of more than 30 people isn't shocking. It's just that we hear everyday of people dying in groups or solitary, murdered or in war. My mind is becoming numb from the news.
I work at a university. My first thought wasn't that it could happen here. My first thought was how can a terrorist act be stopped, at a university or any large gathering place. When someone wants to take out as many human beings with them on their exit out of life, how can you stop them? Now that's scary.
I pray for those families. I know they are devastated. Death in proximity changes the rules forever.
